My report is on Martin Van Buren.
He was born on December 5, 1782. He was born in Kinderhook, New
York. Also, Martin Van Buren was the first Chief Executive born
under the US flag.
Martin Van Buren had a nickname,
it was (Little Magician). Some people liked to call him by his
nickname, but most people called him by his real name.
Martin Van Buren's religious denomination
was Dutch Reformed. His ancestry was also Dutch. Martin didn't
mind that he was Dutch and not very many people he knew were
American
Martin got married on February
21,1807. He got married at Catskill, N. Y. Martin Van Buren was
24 years old when he got married. If you want the exact day of
his age, he would be 24 years and 78 days old. He was married
for 11 years and 349 days.
Martin Van Buren was a Democratic
(Republican). He represented New York as a Democratic Republican.
Now we finally get to the good
part of when he becomes President. Martin Van Buren became President
on March 4, 1837- March 1841. Martin Van Buren was competing
against Richard Mentor Johnson for President. When it came to
the votes Martin got 57.82 percent (170 votes - 15 states). Richard
got 42.18 percent (109 votes - 15 states). Martin was surprised
to win more of the votes from Richard Mentor Johnson.
Martin was the third child of
five. He has three brothers and one sister. Their names are Derike,
Hannah, Lawrence, and Abraham. Derike is the oldest, then Hannah
is the next oldest, then Martin is the next oldest, then Lawrence
is the next, and Abraham is the youngest.
Martin has a father named Abraham
Van Buren. His father was a farmer. He also has a mother named
Hannah Hoes Van Buren. His mother was a tavern keeper. His father
died on February 16, 1817 and at the age of 80 years and 40 days.
His mother died on February 5, 1819 and at the age of 35 years
and 334 days.
Martin himself was 5 ft. and 6
in. tall, but was trim and erect. Martin dressed fastidiously.
He didn't even mind the bald spot on his head when he had got
older.
Martin Van Buren's Vice President was Richard Mentor Johnson.
Richard said he would try his best but Martin didn't think so
because Richard didn't win the election for President.

Alyssa:
Do you have any nicknames?
President Van Buren:
"Yes, they are Little Magician and the Red Fox of Kinderhook."
Alyssa:
Do you know why they call you these nicknames?
President Van Buren:
"They called me Little Magician because of my height and
The Red Fox of Kinderhook because of my non-committalism."
Alyssa:
How were you observed in your Autobiography?
President Van Buren:
"I would say, I left Albany for Washington as completely
broken down a politician as my bitterest enemies could desire."
Alyssa:
Could you tell us what Andrew Jackson said to you as a New Yorker?
President Van Buren:
"I would say he is a true man in whom there is no guile."
