Korean Art

Korea has a rich artistic heritage. Through their art can be seen their love of the natural environment. Much of their inspiration comes from nature. The bowl at the far left is an example. They believe that all natural objects had spirits.

In the mid-12th century during the Goryo Dynasty a method of glazing pottery was developed. It is known as the Goryo Celadon. This glaze has been described as a pale-green of a rainy day in spring. This green has been carried on as a tradition and is used in much of the pottery of Korea.

The dolls at the left are traditional wedding dolls. When a husband and wife are happy the dolls will be facing each other. If they are mad at each other they turn the dolls away from each other. If one wants to make up he or she will turn their doll to face the other.
They also have colorfully painted ducks that are used in a similar manner.
