Betatakin...

The stonework of the ruins is inferior to the masonry of Chaco Canyon or Mesa Verde. The walls are built of irregularly shaped stones with poor coursing and adobe mortar. But the greatest difference is seen in the kivas.

At Keet Seel there are six kivas that have not been excavated, but there is a second type of ceremonial structure which is above ground. Entry is through a door in one of the short walls. A deflector stands between the door and a fire pit. Such structures have become known as "kihus."

The cliff house of Betatakin has only ceremonial structures of the above ground "kihus" type.

Keet Seel has 160 ground floor rooms and six kivas and also "kihus."
