The missions of Isleta and Acoma are the oldest remaining missions and were the only ones to survive the Pueblo Rebellion of 1680 without extensive damage.

Acoma Pueblo...
Acoma, New Mexico

				Enchanted Mesa Acoma... "Sky City"...  Acoma also known as "Sky City" is built on the top of "Enchanted Mesa."  The Indians of Acoma were the last to submit to the Spaniards.  It is felt that this was a factor in the location of the mission away from the housing clusters.
San Estevan Mission, (before 1644)  The earth for the mission's cemetery is held in place by a sixty foot high retaining wall. All of the fill was carried from the valley on the backs of the Indians.
